A Toot and a Snore in '74 is a rare bootleg album of the one and only jam session in which John Lennon and Paul McCartney played together after the break-up of the Beatles. First mentioned by Lennon in a 1975 intereview, details were brought to light in May Pang's 1983 book, Loving John -- and it gained wider prominence when McCartney made reference to the session in a 1997 interview. Discussing with Australian writer Sean Sennett in his Soho office, McCartney claimed the 'session was hazy ... for a number of reasons'. The story is corroborated by biographies such as Christopher Sandford's 2006 McCartney.[1] Lennon was in his "lost weekend", kicked out of the house by Yoko Ono for 18 months; thus he was with his girlfriend May Pang. Sandford paints the scene very vividly, as the room froze when McCartney walked in, and remained perfectly silent until Lennon said, "Valiant Paul McCartney, I presume?" McCartney responded: "Sir Jasper Lennon [a character Lennon played during an early TV appearance skit], I presume?" McCartney extended a hand, Lennon shook it, and the mood was pleasant but subdued, cordial but not especially warm (at least initially). McCartney went to Los Angeles at Ono's request to help John repair his marriage with Yoko. Lennon had begun producing Harry Nilsson's latest album, Pussy Cats, when Paul and Linda McCartney dropped in on the Burbank Studios session on March 28, 1974. They were joined by Stevie Wonder, Harry Nilsson, Jesse Ed Davis, May Pang, Bobby Keys and producer Ed Freeman for an impromptu jam session. What followed was not very productive. Lennon sounds to be on cocaine—he can be heard offering Wonder a snort on the first track, and on the fifth, asks someone to give him a snort. This is also the origin of the album name, where John Lennon clearly asks: "You wanna snort, Steve? A toot? It's goin' round." Whether the snore/snort discrepancy is intentional or not is not known. In addition, Lennon seems to be having trouble with his microphone and headphones. Lennon is on lead vocal and guitar, while McCartney sings harmony and plays drums. Stevie Wonder sings and plays electric piano, Linda McCartney on organ, May Pang on tambourine, Harry Nilsson provides vocals, Jesse Ed Davis is on guitar, producer Ed Freeman fills in on bass, Bobby Keyes plays saxophone

The Class of 1974 Thomas Jefferson Sculpture and Garden
The Darden Class of 1974 has always been gracious and devoted supporters of the Darden School. Whether through the endowment of scholarships, contributions to the Darden Annual Fund or strong volunteer leadership, the Class of 1974, energized by their passion, continues to be committed to making Darden a leading institution and an exceptional community. During their 30th reunion, the Class of 1974 discussed ideas for a class gift as a lasting reminder of their experience and presence at Darden. The Class was adamant about giving the Darden community a gift that could be enjoyed by all members, past, present and future. Through these discussions, The Class of 1974 Thomas Jefferson Sculpture and Garden was conceived and brought to life. An advisory committee comprised of members of the Class of 1974, scholars from the University of Virginia and experts from Monticello and the Thomas Jefferson Foundation completed a rigorous process of choosing a sculpture firm, eventually deciding on Daub Firmin Hendrickson of Berkeley, California. The committee and the sculptors spent two years researching, designing and installing the sculptor and garden. The sculpture of Thomas Jefferson is unique, not only to Darden but also to the University of Virginia. In this sculpture, Jefferson is portrayed during a later stage in life at the age of 74. This was the age at which Mr. Jefferson fathered the University of Virginia. As the Class of 1974 approach this stage in life, as others have and will, they are reminded of the vigor Jefferson possessed at 74. The location of the sculpture, another essential part of the gift, was decided to be near the Elizabeth and Gary T. Jones Fountain with a garden of plants indigenous to Monticello and Albemarle County at the end of Flagler Courtyard. An atmosphere of contemplation, reflection and enjoyment, one which Jefferson himself would have relished, will be available to all members of the Darden community on behalf of the Class of 1974. The gift of The Class of 1974 Thomas Jefferson Sculpture and Garden will not only be a remarkable addition to the Darden grounds, but will also be a constant reminder of the Darden Schools connection with the University of Virginia and its father, Thomas Jefferson.
